Main Research Direction
1、 Relation between animal nutrition and environment
We mainly work on the following fields: the interaction of animal nutrition and environment, the effect of nutritional and environmental factors on animal growth and meat quality, balanced diet and slurry treatment, the manipulation of animal’s intestinal and external environment, the design of feeding equipment and the development of active antistress ingredient. In recent years, we have systematically studied the balanced diet and slurry control in swine and poultry industry, intestinal environment manipulation of piglets and broilers, design and development of swine house and feeding equipment, natural active ingredient to swine growth and meat quality manipulation, and brought forward the systematical theroy and relevant technology for reduction and elimination of slurry in animal husbandry originally by diet manipulation and biological technology, improvement of feeding equipment, non-pollution treatment of slurry and changing waste into resource. Productions, such as the dry-wet feeder, new meat quality improver, intestinal regulation peptide for piglets, environmental purificant for animal husbandry and so on, have been developed and enable us to be warranted with three national invention patents and one China practical new type patent.
2. Animal ecological production and administration
This part of research basically focuses on the intensive system of effective ecological animal production, the design of modern livestock farming system, HACCP administration of intensive scaled farm and the innocuous treatment and general utilization of livestock waste. In these years, we have taken serial researches on effective ecological production of high-qualified yellow broiler, pig industrial mode of non-pollution production and environmental engineering, HACCP regulation of intensive scaled layer farm, the management of livestock waste, integration of breeding and planting and sustainable development of animal industry. Up to now, a series of critical technology and regulations of animal safe ecological production have been established.
3. Animal breeding innovation and molecular breeding
We mainly works on the biological technology of molecular inherit and breeding, involving the polymorphic DNA researches on random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), microsatellite polymorphic DNA and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of functional gene. The polymorphic DNA analysis of broiler and pig in Zhejiang province has been carried out. In recent years, we studied the polymorphic markers as polymorphic protein and DNA, and applied the marker analysis technology to the select breeding of livestock and evaluation of inheritance resource, having been awarded a number of domestic leading research achievement. A rapid and effective RNA extraction method, which was set up in the study of swine growth hormones gene, was applied to detect the relationship of growth hormone and product performance in Jinhua pig. A new Halothane sensitive Gene analysis method was developed in the research of meat quality improvement, meanwhile, DNA fingerprint was used in study of genetic distance in different breeds in poultry. Furthermore, the blood protein polymorphism analysis was applied to study the variation of local breed swine and chicken, laying a foundation for further genetic improvement of swine and chicken in Zhejiang province.
Staffs and main research achievements
There are 10 faculty members and staffs in our institute, including 3 professors, 6 associate professors and 1 lecturers. We have received 5 Provincial and Ministry level awards and 5 invention patents for research achievements, and published 105 papers in academic periodical as well as 15 works. At present, 36 scientific research items, with 9 at national level and 12 at provincial level, are being undertaken. The total annual average scientific research outlay is 28 million RMB. So far, we have 8 PhD candidates and 32 MS candidates with 2 graduated doctors and 30 graduated masters.
